The power of human stories in a world of disconnection with Keven Karaca, The House Outside

As the world seeks more meaning and belonging, the stories we tell at work, in our organisations, and in our communities matter more than ever. This talk explores how storytelling shapes behaviour, culture, and our sense of what’s possible. We’ll look at why the most powerful stories today aren’t about persuasion or performance, but about helping people feel seen, capable, and part of something bigger.

Through examples and provocations, Kevin invites us to rethink the role of storytelling. Using it as an act of care and responsibility, to paint a more hopeful picture of the future.

Kevin Karaca is a creative strategist, storyteller and community builder. He’s spent a lifetime exploring the stories we live by and how they shape behaviour, culture, and our sense of belonging. Through his work, he helps people and organisations use storytelling to create positive change, build agency, and imagine more hopeful futures.

Alongside his consultancy The House Outside, he co-founded Folc, a social enterprise creating community through movement and mindfulness, and is a Founding Partner of Good Eye, a platform supporting creativity for good.

This event is supported by Create Growth D2 Hub and is a partnership between the University of Derby, Derby City Council, Derbyshire County Council, and funded through DCMS funding.
